会議の「持ち帰ります」、何を持ち帰るわけじゃないのはなぜ？

会議かいぎや商談しょうだんで「その件はいったん持ち帰りますかえります」と言ういうとき、資料や商品しょうひんを本当にほんとうに手で持ってもって帰るかえる話ではありません。ここでの「持ち帰るもちかえる」は、答えをその場ばで決めず、社内しゃないやチームの中なかへ戻して考えるかんがえる、という意味いみで使われつかわれています。相手あいての前まえで即答そくとうできない事情をやわらかく伝えるつたえる言い方なので、物ものの移動より判断はんだんの保留ほりゅうに近いちかい表現ひょうげんです。初めて聞くきく人ひとは少しすこし回りくどく感じますかんじますが、会議かいぎではかなり普通に出てきますでてきます。

When someone says in a meeting or business discussion, 'We will take that back for now,' they are not talking about physically taking documents or products away by hand. Here, 'take back' means bringing the issue back into the company or team to think about it before deciding. It is a softer way to say that they cannot answer on the spot, so the expression is closer to holding judgment than to moving an object.

この言い方ほうが便利なのは、まだ結論は出せないが、聞いた内容ないようをそのまま流すわけではない、と同時どうじに示せるしめせるからです。たとえば価格かかく、納期のうき、権限けんげんのある人ひとの確認かくにんが必要な話では、その場ばで「できません」と切るより、「持ち帰って確認します」の方ほうが次つぎの動きうごきが見えみえます。相手あいても、社内しゃないで一度回る話なのだと分かれば、その場ばで答えが出ないこと自体じたいには納得しやすくなります。一方でいっぽうで、何でもこの表現だけで返すと、逃げているように聞こえるきこえることもあります。相手あいてが知りたいのは、持ち帰るもちかえるかどうかより、いつ、誰が、何をなにを確認して返すのかだからです。

This phrase is useful because it can show two things at once: the answer cannot be finalized yet, but the point will not simply be ignored. For example, if the matter requires confirmation about price, delivery timing, or someone with authority, saying 'We will take it back and confirm' shows the next step more clearly than cutting it off with 'We cannot do that.' At the same time, if this phrase is used for everything, it can sound like avoidance. What the other side really wants to know is not whether you will take it back, but when, by whom, and what will be checked before the reply comes back.

そのため、実際じっさいの仕事しごとでは「持ち帰りますかえります」だけで止めず、後ろに小さい説明せつめいを足す人ひとが多いおおいです。たとえば「法務ほうむにも確認したいので、本日中に持ち帰って、明日の午前に返答します」と言えば、保留ほりゅうの理由りゆうと期限が一度に伝わりますつたわります。また、「検討します」よりも、社内しゃないで確認するかくにんする流れながれがあることをはっきり出しだしたいときに、この言い方ほうが選ばれますえらばれます。返す日だけでなく、メールで返すのか、次つぎの打ち合わせで返すのかまで見えるみえると、相手あいては待ちやすくなります。逆に、すでに社内判断が済んでいることまでこの表現ひょうげんで引っぱると、不信感につながります。会議かいぎでこの言葉ことばを使うつかうときは、何をなにを物理的に持つもつかではなく、どの判断はんだんを部屋へやの外そとへ出しだして、いつ戻すかまで一緒いっしょに言ういうと自然しぜんです。

That is why, in real work, many people do not stop at saying only 'We will take it back.' They add a small explanation after it. For example, if they say, 'We need legal to confirm this as well, so we will take it back today and reply tomorrow morning,' both the reason for holding it and the deadline become clear at once. When using this phrase in a meeting, it sounds natural if you explain not what is physically being carried, but which decision is leaving the room and when it will return.
