October 5 is World Teachers’ Day, introduced by UNESCO and others. It is also a chance to notice people who teach in community classes and Japanese lessons. Teaching includes attendance, preparing materials, and answering questions.
When something is unclear, it is natural to say, “May I ask a short question?” after class. For a longer matter, ask when the teacher can talk next. In an email, briefly include your name, class, and question.
A special gift is not necessary to express thanks. You can say specifically what helped, such as “Today’s explanation made it clear.” Reviewing what you learned in your own words also makes the next question clearer.
